Chickens

Chickens in many varieties are raised on our farm, including Rhode Island Red, Sex Link, Delaware, Barred Rock, Buff Orpington, Brahma, Bantam, etc. Chickens are easy to raise and very rewarding. Laying hens provide on average 5-6 eggs a week. It takes 16-24 weeks for a chick to grow into a hen and start laying eggs. There is nothing like a farm raised egg, the yokes are more golden and rich in flavor. Our chickens are cage free and roam the farm.  We have some breeds that we allow to sit on their eggs and hatch them, the Brahmas and Bantams are especially good at this and are exceptional mothers. Seeing chicks hatch and watching mother hens look over their chicks is a lot of fun!
